LIVING #SUPERNATURALLY

How you were created and where you were born were determined by God but how you live on earth is up to you. You can live as a victor or as a victim, as a champion or as a warrior. You can waltz through life or, if you so choose, mark your every step with a dirge of your suffering and shame. And the good news is that you can live supernaturally rather than survive as an animal, enslaved by nature.

Adam, the progenitor of all mankind, was created by God in His image and likeness and put on planet earth by the Creator to live like Him. He was not the biggest or the strongest of creatures but he was the only one imbued with the authority to dominate the earth and rule over all things. Unfortunately, Adam fell to the cunning deceitfulness of the wily old serpent, the devil, and lost his authority to live like his Maker. What the devil might not have known was that this divine ‘product’ came with a warranty. So God immediately announced His plan to replace the first man with the second man, whom Apostle Paul also calls the last Adam, and that is our Lord Jesus the Christ.

THE NEW MAN
Jesus was born to take our place and atone for our sins with His blood so that, through faith in Him, we would be saved and become members of God’s family. By disobeying the express commandment of God in the Garden of Eden, Adam sinned against God, and everyone born in the similitude of Adam is adjudged a sinner and stands condemned before God. But when you confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God makes a new man out of you by His Spirit. That is what it means to be born again. When you are born again, it is as if God has returned you to factory setting so that you would, indeed, live like Him on earth. I am persuaded that Jesus did not come to the world only to die in our place and reconcile us to God; He also came to model for us how to live supernaturally as a born-again man on earth. Hear Him:

"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." - John 3:6-8

To live supernaturally on earth as a child of God, you must recognize that you are not a mere man - you are a spirit! When you were born by your mother, you were born in the flesh to live naturally. When you are born again, you are born in the Spirit to live supernaturally. But what does it mean to live supernaturally?

LIVING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS
Sin is natural. It stems from the desires and lusts of our carnal nature. That is why Paul calls it the works of the flesh in Galatians 5:19-21. But righteousness is supernatural. It flows from your life in the Spirit - Paul calls it the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. To live supernaturally is to live righteously like Jesus who was tempted in all ways as we are yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15).

LIVING BY A DIFFERENT LAW
The world is governed by laws which every man must live by. The law of gravity, for example. It is also an unchangeable law of nature that what you sow is what you will reap. And no woman can conceive, according to this law, unless a man’s seed is planted in her womb. But the new man is not bound by those laws. Jesus, our prototype, was born without a male seed by Virgin Mary. He lived His life on earth by the laws of the spirit of life (Romans 8:2). He walked on water, turned water into wine, healed people of congenital diseases, triumphed over death, among many others. And you know what? It is the will of God that you should live like that - supernaturally!

MASTERING CIRCUMSTANCES
We are all surrounded and buffeted by all manner of adverse circumstances, some of which are quite overwhelming. When you surrender to it and declare a force majeure, you are responding to it in the natural. But you can respond like Jesus did when His boat was hit by a storm and His disciples thought that their end had come. The Lord rebuked the wind and commanded the sea to become calm (Mark 4:39). The disciples were amazed and wondered 'what manner of man is this?' He was just the kind of man He wanted them to be. That is the new man. How you react or respond to the circumstances of life reveals who you are.

Let me end by repeating that how you were created and where you were born were determined by God but how you live in this world is up to you. So, live #supernaturally.

MAKE 2020 THE BEST YEAR OF YOUR LIFE

Let me welcome you very warmly to the year 2020. Please repeat after me: “2020 is a good year for me. I will walk in the will of God and fulfill His purpose for my life this year. I will walk in the blessing of the covenant and enjoy the abundance of the earth. The work of my hand is blessed. In all things, I will excel supernaturally. Wherever I go, I will be surrounded with favour. Because God is for me, nothing shall effectively be against me this year. I walk in dominion with Satan under my feet. I am unstoppable. Nothing is impossible for me. And all things shall work together for my good. In Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!” For well over ten years, I had a monthly offline publication called A Word in Season which I rested few years ago. Most of the articles published over the years were compiled into my inspirational book, Morning Does Not Tell the Day. But from this month, I yield to the request of many readers who were blessed by A Word in Season to revive the publication in an online

TURNING THE TIDE BY DENNIS INYANG

It is an open secret that David, not the sovereign monarch of Israel but the little shepherd boy who stole the show in the valley of Elah, is my favorite example when it gets to shaming the pundits. He is the quintessential underdog who flips the game against all expectations and sends the celebrated and probably over-rated giant to the dust. Well, Goliath was not so fortunate to merely kiss the dust. He had his head cut off and his trunk served to the birds. And all these were done by an unknown teenager whose only skill was to throw a stone with a sling. But that was all David needed to silence the raucous boast of Goliath, champion of the Philistines, and save Israel from reproach and servitude. This famous David versus Goliath encounter is what fills my mind today as I consider what to write for the May edition of your favorite blog, A Word in Season. For over three months, the world has been terrorized by a certain coronavirus whose origin has become a source of attrition bet

#CORONAVIRUS: FEAR NOT! BY DENNIS INYANG

Some days ago, my eight-year old daughter asked her mom, “what is coronavirus?” That was what everyone was talking about and she wanted to be part of the conversation. Indeed, nothing has enjoyed the attention of the media in the last few weeks and paralyzed the world with fear like coronavirus, an infection that started in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019. So far, it has infected over 1000,000 people in 99 nations with over 3000 recorded deaths. The global economy has taken a hit and there are fears that it might plunge the world into another recession. Unfortunately, medical science is yet to discover any vaccine to combat the infection. But we have been told by medical experts to wash our hands with soap many times a day, use hand sanitizers, avoid people with flu-like symptoms of coughing and sneezing, and maintain social distancing. Since coronavirus is transmitted from human to human, these are all good measures for our safety. The flip side of it, however, is that these experts
