MAKE 2020 THE BEST YEAR OF YOUR LIFE

Let me welcome you very warmly to the year 2020. Please repeat after me: “2020 is a good year for me. I will walk in the will of God and fulfill His purpose for my life this year. I will walk in the blessing of the covenant and enjoy the abundance of the earth. The work of my hand is blessed. In all things, I will excel supernaturally. Wherever I go, I will be surrounded with favour. Because God is for me, nothing shall effectively be against me this year. I walk in dominion with Satan under my feet. I am unstoppable. Nothing is impossible for me. And all things shall work together for my good. In Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!”

For well over ten years, I had a monthly offline publication called A Word in Season which I rested few years ago. Most of the articles published over the years were compiled into my inspirational book, Morning Does Not Tell the Day. But from this month, I yield to the request of many readers who were blessed by A Word in Season to revive the publication in an online format. Publishing it online will remove circulation bottlenecks and enable me to reach millions of people across the world. I sincerely pray that every edition will bless you.

If you are a Nigerian and above the age of 30, year 2020 should sound familiar to you. It’s the magic year that our politicians had told us many years ago that all our problems would be over. Public power supply was to be steady and our dear country was expected to be listed among the 20 most industrialized nations on earth. That vision became a mirage; some would dare to say that it turned into a nightmare. My prayer for you is that your vision for this year will not fail.

GET YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT
As the year begins, it’s so easy to take off in pursuit of the wrong things. No matter your passion, if your priorities are wrong, the results will not serve you well. Your first task, therefore, is to get your priorities right. This should not be difficult at all for any child of God. Jesus, our Saviour and Master, spells this out very clearly in Matthew 6:33 -

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

To give context to that scripture and help you understand the import of what Jesus was teaching, it will be helpful to read from verse 19. Three things can be noted clearly: 1. There is no enduring value in laying up for yourself treasure on earth because it won’t last. 2. You will have to make a decision whether you will serve God or money because you can’t live your life for both. 3. Worrying about the provisions of life is a waste of time and proof of your lack of faith in God. It is after these that Jesus charges us to seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

There is nothing wrong with desiring to have the good things of life provided that does not come first. Your primary pursuit as a child of God should not be the acquisition of things but the expansion of the kingdom of God and manifesting His righteousness. You should be passionate about the work of God. If you don’t seek the kingdom of God first then your priorities are wrong. When the kingdom is your priority, you can set goals - career, business, academic or any goals - and God will grant you the grace and wisdom to achieve them.

“AT YOUR WORD”
In Luke chapter 5, we find Simon Peter at the lake of Gennesaret. He had toiled all night without a single catch. As Jesus arrived the shore, Simon and his partners were washing their nets, ready to go home. The Master entered Simon’s boat and sat down to speak to the crowed which was surging forward to hear the Word of God. After speaking to the crowd, the Lord spoke to Simon: “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch” (verse 4). Really? That didn’t make sense to Simon because he had combed through the water before. But his reply is where the key to success is: "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net” (Verse 5).

May I pray for you: This year, you will not toil in vain. May you not have an empty net. I command your nets to be full in Jesus Name. But what is the secret? Lay hold of the Word of God. Without the Word, success is not guaranteed. When you act on God’s Word, He puts all of the resources of heaven and earth at your disposal. The Word grants you unlimited access to supernatural results.

After this encounter, Simon Peter knew the place of God’s Word in the affairs of life. He knew that the Word releases the power for impossible exploits. So when he saw Jesus walking on the sea before the break of dawn, all he asked for was a Word from the Lord. Jesus said “come” and Simon stepped out of the boat, and started walking on the water (Matt. 14:29). Incredible!

The most important thing in your drive for success this year, after sorting out your priorities, is a word from the Lord. So what has the Lord said to you? If you don’t know, please wait on Him till He speaks to you. With the Word, toiling will be over. You will enjoy sweat less success.

DO IT NOW!
If Simon had heard the Word from the Lord but failed to act on it, he would have gone home with empty nets and probably returned the next day to continue the toiling. If Jesus said to him “come” and he replied “I will” but sat still in the boat, he would not have walked on water. Success in not only in having a word from the Lord or knowing what to do but it’s in actually doing it. That is why Mary, the mother of Jesus, said to the servants at the wedding feast in Cana of Galilee, “Whatever He says to you, do it” (John 2:5). Scripture further challenges us in James 1:22-25:

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

There is no greater enemy to your success this year than the evil spirit called Procrastination. Don’t let it kill your dream. Whatever you plan to do, do it NOW! By now, I don’t mean tomorrow. I mean right now. Get started on it this minute. That is the secret of success. Happy new year!

TURNING THE TIDE BY DENNIS INYANG

It is an open secret that David, not the sovereign monarch of Israel but the little shepherd boy who stole the show in the valley of Elah, is my favorite example when it gets to shaming the pundits. He is the quintessential underdog who flips the game against all expectations and sends the celebrated and probably over-rated giant to the dust. Well, Goliath was not so fortunate to merely kiss the dust. He had his head cut off and his trunk served to the birds. And all these were done by an unknown teenager whose only skill was to throw a stone with a sling. But that was all David needed to silence the raucous boast of Goliath, champion of the Philistines, and save Israel from reproach and servitude. This famous David versus Goliath encounter is what fills my mind today as I consider what to write for the May edition of your favorite blog, A Word in Season. For over three months, the world has been terrorized by a certain coronavirus whose origin has become a source of attrition bet

#CORONAVIRUS: FEAR NOT! BY DENNIS INYANG

Some days ago, my eight-year old daughter asked her mom, “what is coronavirus?” That was what everyone was talking about and she wanted to be part of the conversation. Indeed, nothing has enjoyed the attention of the media in the last few weeks and paralyzed the world with fear like coronavirus, an infection that started in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019. So far, it has infected over 1000,000 people in 99 nations with over 3000 recorded deaths. The global economy has taken a hit and there are fears that it might plunge the world into another recession. Unfortunately, medical science is yet to discover any vaccine to combat the infection. But we have been told by medical experts to wash our hands with soap many times a day, use hand sanitizers, avoid people with flu-like symptoms of coughing and sneezing, and maintain social distancing. Since coronavirus is transmitted from human to human, these are all good measures for our safety. The flip side of it, however, is that these experts
